The North Easter part of India is considered to be the most beautiful region in South Asia.  It comprises of seven sister states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura. Attached to India by a 20 km wide land in Siliguri, West Bengal, it shares 2000 km of its borders with Bhutan, Myanmar, China and Bangladesh.

The languages spoken here are Nepali, Bhutia (Sikkimese and Tibetan), Hindi and English. The weather here is generally cold and temperatures tip down below zero. Summers are pleasant and there is heavy rainfall during monsoons. There is a heavy tribal population in areas of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland. Each tribe has its own tradition of art, culture and life style.

North East India is shrouded with dense forests in the foot hills of Himalayas and untamed wildlife at the Manas National Park and Kaziranga National Park. North-east India is adorned with beautiful waterfalls and ancient caves. The availability of eco-tourism opportunities here are abundant. So are the opportunities to trek, raft, hike and bird watch. Whatever you wish to do the beautiful valleys and lush green forests of north east will keep beckoning you. Some of the adventures have been listed below.

Sikkim

Trekking in Sikkim

There are several trekking trails in Sikkim. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute at Yuksam is the start for most climbing training courses. The Kanchenjunga Trek is one of the famous treks. So is the trek to Bakhim or Dzongri or Monastery Leisure Trek. The perfect time for mountaineering is either from mid February to late May or between October and mid December.

River Rafting in Sikkim

River Teesta and Rangit are the two rivers where rafting can be indulged in. Grade 4 rapids can be found on the rive Teesta. It also had rapids for starters.  This river has several grade 2-4 rapids which makes it an ideal place for both the beginners and the seasoned rafters.

Meghalaya

Trekking in Meghalaya

Challenging terrains, intimating species of flora and fauna and flowing rivers make Meghalaya a desirable trekking destination. Famous trek routes in Meghalaya are through Smit, Mawlyngot, Pynursla and Weiloi to Ponkung / Pongkung to Umngi. Meghalaya is also known for its caving structures.

Trekking in Nagaland

Nagaland is also geographically rich and makes for a preferable destination to trek in. The Major Treks in Nagaland here are Dzukou Valley trek, Mokokchung trek, Pungro trek, Mount Tiyi trek and Satoi Range.

Trekking in Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradeh's geographic conditions allow trekking to be one of its adventure activities. In addition, Tezu-Hayliang, Bhalukpung-Bomdila-Tawang, Roing-Mayodia-Anini and Pashighat-Jengging-Yinkiong have been recognized as four major trekking routes by the Government.

The five rivers of the state namely Kameng, Subansiri, Lohit, Siang and Tirap are amazing for baoting, rafting and trekking. The upper ridges offer an ideal landscape for promoting adventure tourism of all kinds. It is best suited for the tourist, looking for such opportunities. 

There are several routes through the plains of Siang, the second route passes through the Tipi orchidarium to Bomdila and provides excellent scope for angling, trekking and hiking. The third trekking route located in the Dibang valley district with its highest peak at Mayudia (2443 meters.) on the way to Anini and the final route in the list here is through the hills in the Tezu-Hayuliang route.
